Our gym is situated at the back of The Physiotherapy Centre and is well equipped with a treadmill, rower, static bike etc. We also have other rehabilitation equipment such as wobble boards, parallel bars, wall bars, fitter, free weights and gym balls.
The gym is mainly used for rehabilitation purposes following: Fractures of the lower limbs (ankle, tibia/fibula, femur) sprains and strains of ankles and knees. Low back injuries. Following surgery such as hip replacement, discectomy, laminectomy, knee arthroscopies etc. Core stability programs following low back injuries are widely recognised as essential for full recovery and reduced incidence of recurrence. See core stability. Upper limb strengthening programs We also use the gym for assessment purposes such as: Agility following sports injuries Balance and proprioception Lower limb biomechanical assessment Gait analysis Power and fitness Posture As the gym is large enough for several patients to work out at the same time, we also run a few classes such as: Low back reconditioning class for patients who have received individual treatment after either spinal surgery or acute low back pain and then want to carry on with further back exercises We have also used the gym for education purposes such as evening lectures, workshops (CPR, manual handling).
