GDPR & Your Personal Data

As you are no doubt aware the new GDPR (General Data Processing Regulation) comes in to force on the 25th May 2018.

The main focus of GDPR is to ensure that any Personal Data held within an organisation is treated with the respect it merits. In essence, this means only holding personal data we have a valid reason for storing, only using it for the purpose we were given it, and most importantly – ensuring it is handled safely and securely to prevent it being compromised. We have all seen the catastrophic impact the loss of personal data can have on the individuals affected. Anything which helps prevent our personal data being compromised is to be welcomed.

It is important not to ignore GDPR – or to assume you will be ok.

The requirements of GDPR are not onerous – if fact we firmly believe they provide a great opportunity to reassess what Personal Data we hold, for what reasons – and ensure it is adequately protected. This mainly involves the implementation of documented good practices, many of which have been in place for several years.

We have created several updated policies and documents that detail what data we hold, why we hold it and the procedures that are in place to deal with any data breaches or enquiries that you may want to make regarding the data we hold on yourself.  Below are links to the various policies and documents (we will be updating these as necessary as the law evolves over the coming months).

  1. GDPR – Data Breach Policy
  2. GDPR – Data Protection Policy
  3. GDPR – Data Retention Policy with Schedule
  4. GDPR – Subject Access Request Policy
  5. GDPR – Data Privacy Notice
  6. GDPR – Staff Data Protection Training Policy
  7. Cookie policy
  8. Privacy policy
  9. Terms of website use
  10. Website Acceptable Use Policy

If you want more information regarding GDPR then visit the ICO website, also they have a specific section regarding small health sector bodies – which not all is appropriate to The Physiotherapy Centre, but it does give you an idea of what and why have done what we have done!!
