market leading & safe technology
The Physiotherapy Centre is a Specialist Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT) Centre offering shockwave treatment for Musculoskeletal and Urological conditions.
We have Radial & Focussed Shockwave machines – very few companies offer Focussed (which is ideal for deeper tissue conditions, and if often more successful than Radia. – click to see the video below).
The technology we use is from the Market Leading Swiss company Storz Medical. All our ESWT machines are manufactured in Switzerland to stringent European and British standards. Many other clinics use lesser Chinese manufactured ESWT machines.

This Is Our Passion
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment which utilises soundwaves transmitted to localised injured tissue to reduce pain, accelerate healing and stimulate cell regeneration.
What conditions can shockwave therapy treat?
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (outer hip)
- Patellar tendinopathy (Jumper’s knee)
- Tennis/golfers elbow
- Shin splints
- Low Back Pain
- Frozen shoulder
What are the benefits of shockwave therapy?
- Non-invasive – no medication
- Reduces need for steroid injections and surgery
- Transient analgesic effect after treatment
- Clinical results range between 60- 90% successful depending on the condition being treated
- Best non invasive treatment option if all other conservative treatment has failed
- The effects of shockwave therapy are enhanced by rehabilitation
For a full list of indications where the use of Shockwave would not be appropriate please visit the International Society for Medical Shockwave Therapy
Our devices are maintained and serviced by the UK official distributor of Storz Medical devices – Venn Healthcare

All our practitioners are Certified Shockwave Professionals by Venn Healthcare.
Radial Shockwave & focused sockwave
What is the difference?
Focused shockwaves are sound waves that are gathered (or focused) into deeper regions of the body, approximately 12cm. It is at this point that they reach their maximum energy. Focused shockwaves are used in the treatment of deep trigger points or areas, whereas radial shockwaves transmit outwards and do not reach as deep into the target area.
Radial shockwaves are performed on greater surface areas of application or larger regions of the body. Your therapist carrying out the procedure will decide which method is best for you, depending on your condition. Sometimes it is advisable to use a combination of both for maximum effect.
Below is a video with outlines these differences in more detail.
The Shockwave Therapy Podcast
The Shockwave Therapy Podcast is created by James Woledge (owner of The Abbeyfields Clinic and Osteopath with many years experience). Each week James is joined by fellow health professionals to discuss Shockwave Therapy. In Episode 10 James discusses shockwave therapy in the treatment in Erectile Dysfunction with our Lead Practitioner, Yves de Vos and Benoy Mathew.
Each week James looks at different ways Shockwave Therapy is used to treat conditions including Musculoskeletal and Men’s Health.

our ESWT Frequently asked questions
Most clients tolerate shockwave well and you will feel some discomfort.
For musculoskeletal problems such as tendon pain we will recommend a combination of shockwave and rehabilitation as clinical trials have shown greater effectiveness than using shockwave alone.
After a shockwave treatment you do not have to rest and you can continue with your normal activities, you can attend alone as you can drive afterwards.
Clients can see an improvement sometimes after the first treatment and the real strength of shockwave therapy is in its medium to long term results.
This depends largely on which device we use, the length of time you have had the problem and the severity of your symptoms. We typically treat between 3-5 sessions on average.
Shockwave therapy is a safe treatment approved by NICE and used within the NHS. All our clinicians are trained at the highest standard in the use of Shockwave Therapy.
Our shockwave devices are engineered by Swiss based Storz Medical, world and market leader in shockwave therapy research, development and manufacturing. They are fully CE certified for safety and effectiveness. We have 2 devices and are able to provide radial and focussed shockwave therapy.
